Interview with skater Ashley Wagner…Figure skater Ashley Wagner considers Kitsap Peninsula home. Though she has lived all over the world, Olympic figure skating hopeful Ashley Wagner says she always goes back to the charming burg of Seabeck on Washington’s Kitsap Peninsula. Her father is a retired Army lieutenant colonel and her mother is a school teacher. Ashley Wagner talks about the challenges and benefits of life as an army brat.
Smiling and blinking back tears, the 18-year-old Delaware skater with deep roots in Kitsap County, Wash. She looked for all the world to be the skater with the best chance of showing up in Vancouver, popping off a Tara Lipinski or Sarah Hughes performance, and walking away with a gold medal. It looks and sounds simple: Top two skaters make the Olympic team.
